How Tuagye's Escrow Payment System Works
Tuagye holds your money securely until you confirm your order arrives. Here's exactly how escrow payments work for buyers and sellers on Tuagye.

You've probably heard us say "Your money is held securely until you confirm delivery." But what does that actually mean? Where does the money go? Who holds it? What happens if something goes wrong?
This post answers all of that.
The Problem Escrow Solves
Every online transaction between strangers has the same fundamental tension.
The buyer thinks: what if I pay and never receive the product?
The seller thinks: what if I ship the product and never get paid?
Both fears are legitimate. Both have happened to real people in Ghana — probably including you. Traditional online marketplaces force one party to take the risk. Usually it's the buyer. Tuagye removes the risk for both sides.
What Escrow Means
Escrow is a simple concept: a neutral third party holds the money until both sides have fulfilled their obligations.
Think of it like a trusted friend standing between you and the seller. You hand the money to the friend. The seller ships the product. When you confirm it arrived and it's what you ordered, the friend hands the money to the seller. If something goes wrong, the friend holds the money while the dispute is resolved.
On Tuagye, that trusted friend is the platform itself, working with licensed payment partners to hold funds securely.
How It Works Step by Step
Step 1 — You find a product and buy it Browse, find what you want, and tap Buy. You can still chat with the seller before purchasing if you want to negotiate or ask questions.
Step 2 — Your payment is held securely Your money leaves your account and goes into escrow — not to the seller. The seller receives a notification that payment has been secured and is ready. They can see the funds are there. They just can't access them yet.
Step 3 — The seller prepares and ships your order Because the seller knows the money is confirmed and waiting, they ship with confidence. No more "pay me first before I send it" back and forth.
Step 4 — You receive your order When your product arrives, you open the Tuagye app and confirm receipt. Take a moment to check that what arrived matches what was listed.
Step 5 — The seller gets paid Once you confirm, the funds are released to the seller immediately. The transaction is complete.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong
This is where Tuagye is genuinely different from anything else in Ghana right now.
